Zagreba favorītiem nav vēlīga
Zagrebas ATP turnīra otrā spēļu diena līdzi nesusi vairākus pārsteidzošus rezultātus. Lielākais, protams, galvenā favorīte Igora Andrejeva neveiksme, kas Ernestam Gulbim pretiniekos dos mājinieku Ivanu Dodigu. Šī spēle gaidāma ceturtdien.
PBZ Zagreb Indoors

Movistar Open
Tikmēr Čīlē, kur tiek aizvadīts šī gada pirmais māla seguma ATP turnīrs pirmā kārta ir brīva četriem galvenajiem favorītiem – Fernando Gonzalesam, Tomijam Robredo, Albertam Montanjesam un Hosē Akasuso. Pirmās kārtas cīņas noslēgsies šonakt, bet lielus pārsteigumus šajā turnīrā laikam būs grūti atrast, kaut arī zaudējumus cietuši daži izliktie sportisti.

It’s almost ridiculous to see Gulbis getting so underrated in here. I understand the surface is fast, but still this spread is way to short for a match between one of the most talented players of the circuit and a 24 years old journeyman, who is just the number 425 of the world. Yes, Ivan Dodig has indeed defeated the number one seed Igor Andreev in the first round by 6-1 6-4, but do you think this would have been the result of the match if Andreev actually cared about the match and didn’t pull one of the most ridiculous tank jobs I’ve ever seen in an ATP tournament? Ivan Dodig is basically a futures player and not a good one. In fact, he lost in the first round and reached quarter finals in two futures in Germany before this tournament. His two losses were against two players out of Top 500, which basically shows the level of the Croatian player. In fact, Dodig actually even prefers clay courters over fast surfaces, as he has played 66% of his matches on clay. His first serve is indeed decent, but he hasn’t served more than 56% first serves this week (just 48% against Andreev in the first round) and we all know what Gulbis can do on the second serves of his opponents.
Ernests Gulbis had a very tough first round, as he had to face Dmitry Tursunov, who decided to play the qualifying, instead of entering the main draw directly. Actually if he had done that, he would never have faced Gulbis in the first round, as Tursunov would have been seeded. Gulbis lost the first set, but showed that he is interested in going far this week by fighting back and winning the second and third set by 6-4. A win over a Top 30 is always a motive to gain confidence and we all know what happens when Gulbis is confident. The Latvian has been impressive this season and he has already record a straight sets win over Novak Djokovic in Brisbane. Gulbis possesses a big serve and powerful ground strokes, especially his forehand wing, which gives him tons of winners during a match. His attacks on his opponent’s second serves are always awesome and Dodig will see the Latvian player returning his second serves with blistering return winners.
Gulbis is the kind of player who loves to destroy weaker opposition, showing no mercy for less talented players. Some proofs of that are his 6-2 6-3 6-2 over Albert Montanes in the Australian Open or his 6-0 6-2 over Guillermo Garcia-Lopez in St. Petersbourg. Ivan Dodig has basically no experience on matches played above futures level and Gulbis will simply destroy him today. The spread is so short that a break per set should be enough for Gulbis to cover the spread, however I expect a 6-1 6-3 type of result to happen in here. Take Gulbis to cover the spread in here.
