Cech - 6.5: The Chelsea custodian actually had very little to do, despite Liverpool's good performance. Had no chance with the deflected goal, and made one crucial save from Steven Gerrard in the first half.
Bosingwa - 5: Promised so much in the first half, always finding space and putting in crosses. But the quality and quantity of delivery deteriorated rapidly after the interval, and he was hooked for young Scott Sinclair.
Terry - 6: Was at fault for the goal, failed to clear Dirk Kuyt's misdirected flick-on. The England skipper endured a number of nervy moments at the back and was arguably more effective when venturing forward. Not his finest display.
Carvalho - 6.5: Contributed to the uncertainty in Chelsea's back-line, although he was more solid than his partner. The tussle between he and Ryan Babel during the last half-hour was good value.
A. Cole - 6.5: Got little joy in attack when staying out wide as he was stifled by Kuyt and Arbeloa. Came inside to good effect on a few occasions - one such run saw him miss Chelsea's best opportunity of the game.
Mikel - 8.5: Perhaps the Blues' best player. Broke up attacks with great proficiency, passed well and was responsible for the hosts hogging possession for decent spells. Also showed one or two moments of genuine skill on the ball.
Lampard - 6: Quiet. Decent early on but when Chelsea needed him to step up during the second half, all they got was some hopeful (or hopeless, perhaps) long-range shooting.
Deco - 7.5: A good display from the Portugal playmaker. Controlled the midfield with Mikel, consistently found his wide-men in space and had one or two chances on goal himself.
Kalou - 5.5: Looked decent in patches early, but his erratic dribbling and lack of precision in front of goal proved a liability at times.
Malouda - 4: Anonymous. Was only sighted for the quasi-penalty claim against Pepe Reina in the first half.
Anelka - 5: Sub-par from the Frenchman. Looked dangerous on the ball in spurts, but his end product was nonexistant and his movement was a far cry from the quality we usually expect of Anelka.
Subs: Di Santo - 6.5, Belletti - 5, Sinclair - N/A
LIVERPOOL
Reina - 7.5: Had few shots to contend with, but he dealt with crosses and long-balls particularly well. Commanded his area, distribution was typically good. One nervy moment when he fouled the offside Malouda.
Arbeloa - 6.5: An OK showing from the Spanish full-back. Got forward well in patches, but mostly was charged with sitting back and keeping a solid shape.
Carragher - 9: Simply outstanding. Kept Anelka and co at bay with an uncompromising performance that made up for his error against Atletico Madrid in midweek. Last-ditch tackle to deny Deco in the second half was superb.
Agger - 8.5: The Dane is approaching his best after a somewhat nervy reinstatement in the first team. Committed and courageous on the last line, also brought the ball forward and passed neatly.
Aurelio - 7: Got forward very little, a fact which visibly frustrated his captain at times. But the Brazilian left-back was composed on the ball all afternoon and won back the ascendancy after letting Bosingwa off the leash early.
Mascherano - 7: Just a good showing from the Argentine battler. Not his most dogged display, nor his classiest, but he made tackles at crucial moments and helped out his defence as per usual.
Alonso - 8: Was lucky with his winning goal, but should have had two when his free-kick struck the upright. An assured if not dominant all-round display from the Basque playmaker, although he was involved in most of the Reds' best moves.
Kuyt - 6.5: He worked hard, like always, and smothered Chelsea's left flank all game long. Had his good moments, but his attacking contributions weren't hugely significant.
Riera - 7.5: Among the best players on the pitch during the first half, but he faded quickly after a bright start to the second period. Troubled Bosingwa with his strong runs down the left.
Gerrard - 8: As ever, the Liverpool skipper lifted is moments when he was required. Passing was hit-and-miss at stages, but the hits were brilliant. Nearly scored with a smashing left-foot volley.
Keane - 6: Worked hard and tried to get involved, held onto the ball well too, but he had few real chances to score. A valiant effort, but Fernando Torres was still missed.
Subs: Babel - 7, Lucas - N/A, Hyypia - N/A
