BK “Ventspils” has reached an agreement with the leader of Latvian national basketball team and one of the best basketball player’s in our country – Kristaps Janicenoks. The agreement is until June 2017. His first game in BK “Ventspils” jersey will be on Wedneday, November 26 during the Eurocup game against “Lokomotiv Kuban” from Russia.

The Chairman of the Board of Basketball club “Ventspils” Ralfs Pleinics admits that name of Kristaps Janicenoks in Latvian basketball doesn’t ask for additional comments neither from those who are passionately interested in basketball, nor from those who just have heard about basketball a little bit: “I think that every team would be happy to have such a personality and player as Kristaps Janicenoks on its roster. The agreement with one of the best players in Latvia was reached as result of long negotiations, and we are very happy that for next 2,5 years Kristaps will be representing Ventspils city’s team.”

BK "Ventspils" player Kristaps Janičenoks is happy to join Ventspils team, that - he thinks - is a strong and stable basketball club of European level: “At first I would like to say thank you to the management and head coach of Ventspils for this opportunity. Right now I have quite the unusual feeling because I have only player against Ventspils before, but it gives me an additional excitement and interest about how it is going to be - to actually be on BK “Ventspils” roster.”

Kristaps Janicenoks was born in 1983 in Riga. He began his professional career at “Broceni/LMT” when he was 16 years old, but during 2001 he represented “Skonto” in Riga. His first mission abroad came in 2003 when he played for Belgian club “Basket” in Liege for one season. Then he went to Germany where he played for “Telekom Baskets” in Bonn. He travelled to Italy in 2006 where he played for “Orlandina Basket”, “Climamio” and “Teramo Basket”. In 2008 he joined “Barons/LMT” for a short while but at the end of that year in December returned to Italy to play for Venetian team “Umana”. After his return to Latvia he represented “VEF Riga” since 2010.

Kristaps Janicenoks has represented all Latvian youth national basketball teams, and right now he is one of the men’s national basketball team.

Kristaps Janicenoks will play his first game as BK “Ventspils” player on Wednesday, November 26, when Ventspils will host another Eurocup game and will face Russian basketball club “Lokomotiv Kuban”. Game start at 19 o’clock, and the live broadcast will be available at SportacentrsTV.
